Kaitlyn began Highland dancing at the age of 5 and started competing when she was 10. At age 12, she started dancing under the direction of Rachelle Lanigan. With Rachelle, Kaitlyn began training to compete for a position on the Provincial Highland Dance team and has represented New Brunswick as a member of the New Brunswick Provincial Highland Dance team for six years. Kaitlyn is a two time Provincial Champion. While representing New Brunswick, Kaitlyn danced at the Canadian Highland Dancing Championship held in Saint John NB, Victoria BC, Toronto ON, and Antigonish NS.
While studying and training to become a teacher under Rachelle, Kaitlyn received her Associates Degree in teaching Highland Dance in 2010, became a member of the Scottish Dance Teachers Alliance in 2011, and is working towards her Associate Nationals, and Members in Highlands, in 2012. Kaitlyn hopes to someday become a judge or examiner. Since Kaitlyn began dancing with Forever Highland Dance Association out of Rothesay Ballet School, she has trained in Ballet, studying The Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus under the direction of Sylvia Logan. She has also enjoyed studying tap dancing at Rothesay Ballet School, taught by Melissa Wright. Kaitlyn enjoys teaching both recreational and competitive highland dance to children of all ages. Kaitlyn is extremely involved with her students as well as teaching highland dance classes, private lessons and attending many dance competitions around the province. To continue her own ambitions as a highland dancer and teacher, Kaitlyn travels to Fredericton to attend classes with Barb Murray. Kaitlyn began studying at UNBSJ in 2010, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education Degree, majoring in Psychology and French. Kaitlyn's future plans include building the Forever Highland Dance Association, and becoming an Elementary School teacher.
